Our school

Mission Beach is situated on the coast; 2 hours drive south of Cairns and 3 hours drive north of Townsville. The school was originally built in 1953 in the ‘tropical jungle’ in Mission Beach. In 1993 it was relocated to Wongaling Beach due to increasing student numbers. Wongaling is the central part of the 14 kms of beach.

The school motto ‘pride and effort’ embodies the attitude and expectations of the community, staff and students.

We are proud to be part of education Queensland’s far north region where schools have a clear improvement agenda founded on quality teaching and learning. The Australian curriculum is delivered via curriculum to classroom (C2C) and through explicit instruction.

The school educates children from the tourism and rural community. Tourism includes reef and rainforest and rural industry includes bananas and sugar cane.

Mission Beach State School has a very active and supportive parents and citizens association. The community uses the school’s wonderful facilities for many community and sporting activities.

Children are educated in a professional and caring environment.
