Why we study Bahasa Indonesia ……
Indonesia is Australia’s largest and nearest neighbour in the Asian region. It is a maturing democracy, a major trading partner, and a key member of Australian and South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). Indonesia truly matters.
By studying another language, students:
- gain access to other people's ideas and ways of thinking
- become interested in and respectful of other cultures
- develop social and cognitive skills that will help them in other areas of the curriculum
- improve future employment and economic opportunities.
The Indonesian economy is big and it’s growing rapidly. Not long ago, Indonesia’s economy overtook Australia’s in terms of gross domestic product; by the end of this decade, it’s expected that the Indonesian economy will become the world’s tenth biggest.
